Climate Changers Commit Fraud by Changing the Numbers

The James Hansens of the world just can’t seem to catch a break. Before he supported APG – anthropogenic global warming – he scoffed at it. Climategate added to the pile of woes facing those predicting the end of humankind thanks to global warming, while the list of legitimate scientists (those without funding and therefore not beholden) continues to grow longer almost by the day.

That’s how truth will out: drip by drip by drip.

Steven Goddard, who blogs at Real Science, explained how he happened to learn about NASA’s latest manipulation of US temperature data: he compared their 1999 graph to the current one at their website. The early one shows a steady decline in ambient temperatures in the US since the 1930s while the current one shows them rising. He even animated the two graphs on his website to illustrate the extent of the fraud.

He went further. He uncovered comments by James Hansen dating back to 1999 before he lost his mind and his common sense over the matter. Hansen and three others working for the Goddard (no relation to Steven) Institute for Space Studies at NASA wrote an article at the time, noting that

Empirical evidence does not lend much support to the notion that climate is headed precipitately toward more extreme heat and drought.

The drought of 1999 covered a smaller area than the 1988 drought when the Mississippi almost dried up … 1988 was a temporary inconvenience as compared with repeated droughts during the 1930s “Dust Bowl” that caused an exodus from the prairies as chronicled in [John] Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath.

They added:

The U.S. has warmed during the past century, but the warming trend hardly exceeds year-to-year variability. Indeed, in the U.S. the warmest decade was the 1930s and the warmest year was 1934….

In the U.S. there has been little temperature change in the past 50 years … in fact, there was a slight cooling throughout much of the country.

Something happened, however, and Hansen suddenly became a true believer in global warming, offering a paper to the United Nation’s Framework Convention on Climate Change in 2003 entitled “Can We Defuse the Global Warming Time Bomb?” and concluding that “halting global warming requires urgent, unprecedented international cooperation” to deal with it. This of course was music to the ears of the totalitarians focused on turning the UN into International Big Brother.

Goddard also referenced a study done in England following the record-breaking heat wave that hit the US in 1988 that concluded that the wave was a one-time event, that it “appeared to have been linked, at least in part, to natural fluctuations.” Imagine that.

At the same time, a report by scientists at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) who had looked at temperatures over the previous century concluded that “there had been no significant change in average temperatures over that period.”

Christopher Booker simply couldn’t be happier. The author of the best-seller exposing the deceit behind the global warming scam, The Real Global Warming, Booker had been smarting from the attacks directed at him for suggesting that there really were some “real” scientists out there who didn’t believe the canard. He went further and predicted that, once the cover was blown and common sense reigned once again, measures foolishly taken by governments around the world to chase away the global warming bogey man “will turn out to be one of the most expensive, destructive, and foolish mistakes the human race has ever made.”

Writing in The Telegraph, Booker examined, analyzed, and expanded upon Goddard’s findings:

Goddard shows how, in recent years, NOAA’s US Historical Climatology Network (USHCN) has been “adjusting” its record by replacing real temperatures with data “fabricated” by computer models. The effect of this has been to downgrade earlier temperatures and to exaggerate those from recent decades, to give the impression that the Earth has been warming up much more than is justified by the actual data.

In several posts headed “Data tampering at USHCN/GISS,” Goddard compares the currently published temperature graphs with those based only on temperatures measured at the time. These show that the US has actually been cooling since the ’30s, the hottest decade on record; whereas the latest graph, nearly half of it based on “fabricated” data, shows it to have been warming at a rate equivalent to more than 3 degrees centigrade per century.

To amplify further his discovery, Goddard noted that the EPA failed to get the memo that the numbers had been changed to fit the narrative over at NASA and still has on its website a graph showing little change in average temperatures since the 1930s.

Someone else who didn’t get the memo from NASA was Henry Paulson, who continued to lament the newly-manipulated numbers now discredited by Goddard. Paulsen, it will be remembered, was the insider who made himself rich while running Goldman Sachs before moving to take over Treasury just in time for the Great Recession. When Paulsen sold all of his stock in GS prior to relocating, he was given a pass on paying tax on his capital gains. That saved him about $250 million. Now retired, Paulsen continues to push the climate change agenda from his own bully pulpit, the Paulsen Institute, and is free to express his opinions in the pages of the New York Times. On Saturday, Paulsen wrote:

We’re staring down a climate bubble that poses enormous risks to both our environment and economy. The warning signs are clear and growing more urgent as the risks to unchecked….

The carbon dioxide we’re sending into the atmosphere remains there for centuries, heating up the planet.

This is all nonsense, of course, but just in case someone is rude enough to ask about those naysayers like Goddard and Booker, Paulsen wrote:

There is virtually no debate among [climate-change] scientists that the planet is warming and that the burning of fossil fuels is largely responsible….

Those who claim the science is unsettled or action is too costly are simply trying to ignore the problem … waiting for more information before acting is actually taking a very radical risk.

Paulsen’s letter was published for one reason: to promote the agenda. Here it is, in one sentence:

We can [solve] this by putting a price on emissions of carbon dioxide – a carbon tax….

That’s how the globalists’ game is played. If there is a crisis, take advantage of it. If there isn’t one handy, make one up. The answer is always the same: more government.

That’s also how the globalists’ game is being exposed: one revelation at a time. Thanks to the internet, whistleblowers, and seekers after truth like Booker and Goddard, the day will come, perhaps sooner rather than later, when the little girl standing in the crowd next to her mother watching the king strut by will look up at her and say: “Mommy! The King is naked!”

And the crowd laughed and cheered.
