Judge Roy Moore Proves Adage: Truth Crushed to Earth Shall Rise Again

William Cullen Bryant was only partly right. Truth crushed to earth shall rise again, but only with outside help. In the Alabama special election to take place on Tuesday to determine who will take Jeff Sessions’ senate seat, Judge Roy Moore is getting a lot of outside help. But that help is coming from unexpected places.

For a brief moment it looked like falsehood had doomed Moore’s campaign. Charges emanating from various women that Moore had sexually abused them while they were teenagers (some 40 years earlier) gained purchase by the media and the Republican establishment. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Arizona Republican Senator Jeff Flake immediately called for Moore to leave the race, concluding that 40-year old claims that hadn’t been discovered or uncovered until now were more believable than Moore’s denials. The Republican National Committee wasn’t far behind, announcing that it wouldn’t be funding Moore’s campaign thanks to those unproven charges. Even the president backed away from outright support for Moore.

George Soros’ money also looked to figure in the campaign, with efforts to register successfully an estimated 10,000 convicted felons to vote in Tuesday’s election. Soros’ head man is Al Sharpton’s half-brother Kenneth Glasgow, a pastor and trouble-maker with a remarkable history of support from, and for, various anti-American groups. Aaron Klein, an investigative journalist for Breitbart, listed them: the radical Industrial Workers of the World, the Anarchist Black Cross Federation, the Black Autonomy Federation, the Black Militia Nation, and the communist National Lawyers Guild.

Glasgow had the audacity to announce on his radio show his purpose: that “swarming the polls with newly-registered convicts could swing the vote” in favor of Moore’s opponent the same way that Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe did when he used his executive power to restore voting rights for over 200,000 felons in his state.

Following the allegations, Moore lost his lead according to various polls tracking the contest.

And then something happened: like the mythical Greek Phoenix, Moore rose from the ashes. Alabamans weren’t buying the lies. They said that the claims against Moore were false and were instigated by Democrats and aided by the media. The turnaround began a week ago, according to RealClearPolitics (RCP). Moore had pulled even with his opponent, Democrat Doug Jones, and then pulled slightly ahead.

And then came the shocker: on Sunday a CBS poll showed Moore pulling ahead of Jones by six percentage points! This was followed, more amazingly, by an admission by CBS that, for all intents and purposes, the race is over: Moore will win in a walk.

That has moved the president to come out for Moore and the RNC to begin funding his campaign in the final run-up to the Tuesday election. Even the Senate Majority leader has declared that Alabamans should decide on their own who they want to represent them in the Senate.

Bryant was right: truth crushed to earth shall rise again. But it needs help in doing so. Moore had lots of help: skeptical voters about the charges levied against him; Democrats being charged with real crimes of sexual predation (i.e. Al Franken, who is under investigation; John Conyers, who just resigned; etc., etc.); liberal Doug Jones swimming against the current in a very conservative state; and prayer. Evangelical Christians have remained steadfast in their support of Moore, both financially and through prayer, even during his darkest days.
